99% of coffee and book store chains are out to look as conventionally contemporary as possible, the result being that they all tend to look the same. NOBLEHEART BOOKS & COFFEE, CO., is a different story.
Nobleheart is a family-friendly Christian boutique coffee shop and bookstore chain with three locations across the Pacific Northwest, with the mission of providing customers with great coffee and great books, with a focus on Christian and classical literature.
Nobleheart's name is inspired by Luke 8:15, which says: "But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." The logo's brandmark is a visual representation of the name of the brand: "noble" being represented by the crown, with a literal heart standing in for the "heart."

The Logo Suite

Nobleheart's logo suite positions it as high-class and family-friendly. We designed their brand to feel distinct from all other book and coffee chains so as to put Nobleheart in its own category and make it the only choice for its target audience: Christian parents who want a safe place for them to hangout at with their kids and enjoy good books and great coffee.

The Project

Color Palette & Typography
This color palette was designed to be simple, minimalistic, and distinctive, to increase the likelihood of brand recognition. A rich, luxurious brown (Mocha) was selected to evoke the color of coffee, while a warm off-white (Crème) was selected for contrast and a feeling of comfort.
The typeface used in the logo is called Gelica; it was chosen because it is evocative of comfort and warmth while also conveying a classical, friendly, and trustworthy look by virtue of being a serif font. Junicode pairs naturally with Gelica as a secondary typeface because of its readability.

Closing Thoughts
Most coffee and book store chains are scrambling to look, sound, and feel as hip and new as possible. Nobleheart Books & Coffee, Co., is doing the exact opposite, taking the advice of branding expert Marty Neumeier: when everyone else is doing one thing, do the opposite as boldly as possible.
With this commitment, we crafted a bold and beautiful brand identity that positions Nobleheart as a meaningfully different and irresistible choice in the crowded market of book and coffee chains. Nobleheart's brand identity appeals to its specific target audience and is true to its values and mission, which is the very thing that makes it distinctive and memorable. ✦
