Thankfully, Derryberry has one strength it leverages: its specialized knowledgeability. With offices in Richmond, VA and Nashville, TN, Derryberry provides unparalleled expertise in navigating their clients through HUD law and regulation.
We collaborated with Derryberry to highlight this strength with their brand identity. Derryberry's specialized knowledge is incapable of being matched by any of its competition, and we aimed to show that expertise to the world with a visually distinctive and timeless brand identity that felt approachable and professionally knowledgeable at the same time.

We collaborated with Derryberry to highlight this strength with their brand identity. Derryberry's specialized knowledge is incapable of being matched by any of its competition, and we aimed to show that expertise to the world with a visually distinctive and timeless brand identity that felt approachable and professionally knowledgeable at the same time.
This is what we came up with.


The Logo Suite





The primary logo was inspired by the idea at the heart of this law firm: the idea of knowledgeably helping their clients navigate the complex requirements of the law efficiently and professionally, so that they’re never lost in the labyrinth of legalities, can close quickly, and get paid as fast as possible.
This logo suite positions Derryberry as a wise and caring guide through the complexities of the law. The owl, in classical tradition, was symbolic of the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, and of wisdom and knowledge generally. With that in mind, we designed the brandmark as the profile of an owl in a simple, elegant, and classy style. Within its two eyes are reflections of the North Star, which was used by the ancients to navigate the treacherous oceans of the world before.
To double down on this evocative imagery, the eyes also resemble two compasses, placed side-by-side. The result is a submark that stands out as visually distinctive, classy, and symbolic of wisdom and Derryberry’s commitment to navigate their clients through the complexities of the law.

The Project
















Color Palette & Typography
We didn't want Derryberry to blend in with its competition (all of whom were doing the exact same things), so we selected each of the colors in this palette to distinguish Derryberry from its competition and make it feel classy, trustworthy, approachable, and knowledgeable. None of these colors (with the exception of Aether) are used by the competition, which casts Derryberry as distinctly exceptional.
Similarly, we selected Kenfolg as a primary font (for headings and subheadings) because it positions Derryberry as professional, knowledgeable, confident, and premium. Lexend works well as a secondary font because it feels timelessly up-to-date and is easy-to-read.
